I find customers love flash.
The thing is it doesn't go well with the search engne robots.
So you don't get many visitors via search engines.
Which, really, is where they all come from. _________________ Please visit http://www.letsdesign.co.uk

| The poll choiced are apparently assembled by someone who does not like Flash. How about a more balanced set of answers?! |

If someone that is serious about working as a web developer doesn't know Flash yet, it is time to learn it.
In the new Flash 8 you can add a title and a description much like in a normal HTML document.
Macromedia is clearly making progress in this area, and search engines will follow and will add the abilitiy to index Flash files, in this way Flash will be search engine friendly.
Take a look :

What about content management? This is impossible with Flash. Even if you were able to index a Flash website, it would be extremely difficult to compete with the resource giants or huge budgets that the big boys have. _________________ Jolene, Advanced Web Design |

It is actually 'simple' to make a content management system (CMS) in Flash, and even more secure and elegant than just relay on the combination of java-script and HTML.
You can send and receive variables from Flash to a server side script, move some of the server calculation on the client computer and even more interesting trough XMLSocket you can create live applications (chat, multi-user games, etc. ). _________________ The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Really? You can manage news, forums, blogs, project management tools, Google ads, banner ads, etc. through a Flash site? If so, I stand corrected. _________________ Jolene, Advanced Web Design |

Yes you can do everything, with the help of AS 2 and server side scripting (I use php) and a database (MySQL).
Flash can actually read an HTML (if it's necessarily), extract the information you want and process it.
You can add rss feeds too
The only thing that prevents the building of forums and news sites in Flash is the inability of searching trough text inside a flash file (spiders are not able to index the text inside the flash), for now you can only add a title and a description to the document, I really hope that in the future this problem will be solved. _________________ The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. you talk a lot against flash but it sems you don't know what your talking about....
flash makes some things a lot easier, interactive maps in example, few clicks, some motion tween and there you have it a nice looking interactive map......
i just don't like when someone is talking about something they don't know... |

You shouldn't mind. I'm making it easy for you. I agree that I don't know what I'm talking about from a developers perspective. Just a users perspective. Notice that I didn't volunteer to moderate the Flash Extravaganza.
Like I said, I see a whole lot of useless stuff done in Flash and I'm not looking to add to the pile. Seriously though, can you point me to to a well done content managed resource in Flash. I'm morbidly curious. I can post a followup article on my own site if this is the case.
I've spent the last two years focusing on other technologies and restructuring my business. I am glad to see that I may have missed some improvemnts. _________________ Jolene, Advanced Web Design |

I would word the no choices something like this...
No, but it is often used inappropriately.
No, Flash is an effective way to deliver information and keep visitors interested in your site. _________________ Portalflux Media - effective, compelling communication |

There should be options for people that like flash.
I don't mind flash, but a entire website done in flash, I will not recomend to my clients, I try to discourage them.
But hey, they are the boss, right and they always know best!!!
